Session Nine

The party takes a moment to rest after the interaction with Vulpes, Smith spent the night completing the trap for the king of the forest, the threat of finally confronting the beast hanging over the party's head. In the morning, Smith meets the party out by the fire pit. He offers his horses up for the party to use to herd the beast towards the trap. Jax opted to instead herd the beast on his bike, starting up the motorcycle around the horses to see if they'd startle, and they did not. The bike was a go. The party soon sets off on the path towards the king of the forest's den. As the party travels through the forest, the fleshly foliage begins to get denser and denser, a strange reddish mist coats the forest floor as the party cautiously leads their horses into the domain of the king. A massive structure built from warped and bent trees coated in wires lies at the center of this strange wilderness, wires extending from it like twisted phone lines. A rumbling begins to be heard from the den... the king stirs... stirring more and more until the ground begins to shake beneath the player's feet. It is awakening... Suddenly the pair of horrible metal antlers the party saw bursts through the fleshy wall, sending blood and plasma flying. The creature's head rises above the trees, breaking the power lines and sending out a shocking scream-like roar. The beast is awake, and it begins to run.
The players hop on their horses and begin to chase down the beast. First the players take up a V-like formation around the monster, keeping it straight on course. Some players notice that the beast has purple eye-like structures at various points on it's body... they must weaken it first before it reaches the trap, or else the trap will fail. And in order to reach some of these markings... the party must climb. The herding has begun, The party begins to steer the king on their horses in the appropriate directions, some of them using their ranged weapons to attack the king's weak points that are on it's legs. It's quickly figured out that each weak point takes three hits in order for it to close and deactivate. After all the weak points on the legs are taken care of, it's discovered the king has one on it's stomach. Jax, making a quick decision weaves inbetween the creature's legs, shooting a firebolt at the King's stomach. Rainn then quickly stands up on her horse, leaping onto the king and holding on tight. Rainn begins to climb the beast, stabbing the thing in the weak point on it's neck before getting flung off the beast and landing hard, taking fall damage. The king begins to veer off course, and it's communicated to the party they must veer the beast to the right. In a team effort, the party on the opposite side of the beast weave through it's legs, going to the other side of it, forcing the beast to turn. Bishop, at the front of the creature decides that it's time for him to begin to scale the beast. He stands on the back of his horse, jumping onto the creature and beginning to climb it. he's decided in order to help the party, it's time to steer the beast. Bishop climbs up it's neck, almost slipping and fallign at various points before reaching the king's head. Bishop stabilizes himself and loops the rope around one of the antlers, almost slipping and falling while doing so. The party below continues to steer the beast, guiding it around a hill and towards the trap. They're around halfway there. Bishop then loops the other side of the rope around the king's other antler, preparing himself to yank the monster's head in any direction that's needed. The weak point on the king's head, almost taunting bishop... he's suddenly struck with an idea. The party has specialty arrows that they're able to fire at the king's weak points to close them instantly. Bishop yells down to the party, "SHOOT ME!" Waving his hands, ready for his crazy plan to be enacted. Jax, loading up an arrow into his crossbow fires it at Bishop, the arrow whistles through the air and Bishop skillfully snatches it out of the air, grabbing the arrow and stabbing it into the King’s final weak point. The king, now adequately weakened is charging towards the large trap. The party backs off, rainn gets thrown off the king whole bishop hops off the king’s head, landing on his feet. The king barrels into the trap, getting caught by its net. The trap lets out a pulse of anomalous energy as the king collapses and begins to convulse, sending a shockwave through the air. Seven gets caught in the crossfire, as the frequency resonated at the right wavelength to completely crack the porcelain on Seven’s face. To everyone’s shock… Seven is bleeding. Not too long after, the king begins to melt away, uttering a final phrase…. “Cogito Ergo Sum…” before it dissolves into the ground completely. Smith, who was following behind the party in a different wolf-like form catches up to them, congratulating the party and he begins to untangle the large metal antlers from the net. He prompts the party to go rest, expressing some concern about Seven. The party hastily walks to the cabin, ready to attend to Seven. Jax prompts seven to take off his faceplate so he can investigate the bleeding. Seven takes off his faceplate with some trouble, the party was surprised to find that Seven has flesh beneath his faceplate, slowly encroaching on the rest of his internal wiring. Jax attends to the bleeding, and seven puts his faceplate back on and the party lays down to rest. It’s a peaceful night, until the party begins to experience strange dreams, cries for help, and visions that were clearly not their own. The party wakes up, finding Rainn standing with her hair floating around her, standing stiff, muttering. Bishop cautiously walks over to her, waking her up, and Rainn has no memory of the incident… The party sleeps for the rest of the night, some still restless. The party gets up at dawn, Smith meeting them outside. Smith hands Jax the nearly finished compass and he hands Rainn the map to the ferrywoman. He wishes the party luck on their travels, thanking them before the party begins to trek through the woods, on their way to the vast field at the base of the mountain. After a couple of hours the party finally reaches the base of the mountain, the vast pinkish red expanse stretching out to all horizons before them. The only thing breaking up the monotony being a row of power line poles that lead into the vast expanse. As the party advances on, a power line pole slowly bends down to block the party’s way. Those who could hear the frequency are able to hear a cacophony of voices all talking at once. Seven and Bishop try to begin to talk to the power line pole, telling it to not talk all at once. Once the power line listens, it tells the party to go another direction, to go to a tree on a small hill. The party hesitantly follows the power line pole’s directions and they walk up the small hill, revealing a twisted, fleshy tree with an opening in its center…. Just like the one they saw in the desert.
